The QHHS invites you to take part in its numerous activities. From garden visits to conferences, the society will be holding in 2008 a variety of events where you'll not only learn more about your favorite plants, but also get to interact with dozens of fellow gardeners. The 2008 line-up is listed below.

Activity Hosta College
Date March 14-15, 2008
Place Piqua, Ohio
Close to 500 people gather in Piqua OH and take part in seminaries on horticulture.  

Activity Spring meeting
Date April 12, 2008
Place Montreal Botanical Garden
This activity takes place in the auditorium of the Montreal Botanical Garden. This year, we will have two guest speakers :

1) Mr Réjean Millette, author of the book "Les Hostas". Mr Millette has prepared an audiovisual presentation called "Les Hostas, plantes d'ombre les plus vendues en Amérique du Nord".
2) Henry Lorrain, hybridizer and owner of We Are in the Hayfield Now. Mr Lorrain will be talking about the hybridization of daylilies in northern climates.

We'll also take the opportunity to show pictures of hybrids that our members created. The best cultivar will be voted upon. The results of the vote will be officialy announced at our annual meeting in September.

Activity Can-Am Ontario

The Ontario Hemerocallis Society organizes every year, with the help of the Fourth Region's Board of Directors, a big spring meeting. On the list of highlights you will find seven renowned guest speakers, an auction, a plants sale and much more. Can-Am is the perfect occasion to meet hundreds of hemerocallis lovers.

Activity AHS Grand Annual Meeting

For those interested, the American Hemerocallis Society (AHS) is holding its Annual Meeting in Houston from the 14th to the 17th of May 2008. From conferences to plants sales, the AHS offers again this year a great deal of activities, which should satisfy all the Hemerocallis lovers out there.

Activity Horticultural Gathering

Every year, more than 16 000 people visit this major horticultural convention. Close to 120 stands are installed to show visitors what's new in the world of horticulture. Many of our affiliate members are attending. The QHHS has its very own stand where one can buy plants and/or become a member.

Activity Hosta Cut-Leaf Show

Place Montreal Botanical Garden
For a few years now, the QHHS has been presenting to the greater public a wide collection of hosta leaves from dozens of cultivars. Those leaves are brought by members and studied by experts. Each of the leaves is then properly identified and presented according to its class.

This activity allows the greater public to get acquainted with cultivars whose existence it is not aware of. It is also an opportunity for those attending to identify properly the hostas they grow in their garden.

For those interested, the American Hostas Society (AHS) is holding its Grand Annual Meeting in St-Louis MO, from the 11th to the 14th of June 2008. Dozens of activities for Hostas lovers!

The QHHS will be visiting many gardens in the Lanaudière region. Starting at a meeting point, all participants will follow each other by car.

Activity First Look

The American Hostas Society's First Region, which we are part of, organizes every year an event called First Look. Many members of our Society usually attend. It's a formidable occasion to get acquainted with new cultivars and to familiarize oneself with the most recent trends. On the list of activities, you will find a display of new plants, a hybridizers contest, an auction, a conference and a few garden tours.

The QHHS will be visiting many gardens in the Outaouais region. Starting at a meeting point, all participants will follow each other by car.

Activity Annual Assembly
Date September 6, 2008
Place Montreal Botanical Garden
Our Annual Assembly shall be held at the same time as our fall meeting. Mr Dugald Cameron, president of Garden Import, will be joining us as a guest speaker. He'll be entertaining us about the cultivation of shade garden plants.

A plant auction should also take place. The winners of the hybridizers contest will be announced at the end of the event.

Those interested in trading plants with other gardeners will be able to do so by bringing either cultivars or mature plants. We encourage all of those who wish to improve their garden without spending too much to come join us.

QHHS members can get their hands on the most recent hemerocallis and hostas cultivars. A list of available cultivars will be distributed to members and we expect the plants to be delivered shortly before the Horticultural Rendez-vous.
